Structural Engineering Laboratory

Laboratory Name : Structural Engineering
Area of Laboratory : 66.8 sq.m
Laboratory In charge : Mr. R. R. Alurwad
Laboratory Information :

Structural engineering is about finding the response of the structure under various loads. This response can be measured in terms of internal forces or deformations in the structural members. This lab is designed to assess the structure at different levels, including the material level, section level, and structural level.  At material level flexural stiffness (EI) of structural members can be identified. At Section level, Shear center of the particular section can be determined. At the structural level, internal forces and deformations in redundant members can be determined.Additionally, in the lab, verification of Clerk Maxwell’s Reciprocating Theorem can be performed, and Euler’s buckling load for columns with different end conditions can be determined.

List of equipment:

  1. Shear Center Apparatus
  2. Redundant Joint Apparatus
  3. Three Hinged Arch Apparatus
  4. Two Hinged Arch Apparatus
  5. Apparatus for verification of Clerk Maxwell’s Reciprocating Theorem
  6. Apparatus for Elastic properties of Deflected Beam
  7. Portal Frame Apparatus
  8. Colum and Strut Apparatus
  9. Shear force and Bending Moment Apparatus

List of Experiments:

  1. To find the shear center if different beams sections.
  2. To find the forces in the redundant members
  3. To find the horizontal thrust in a three hinged arch for a given system of loads
  4. To find the horizontal displacement of the roller end of two hinged arch for a given system of loads.
  5. To verify Clerk Maxwell’s Reciprocating Theorem by using mild steel beam
  6. To find flexural stiffness (EI) for a given beam
  7. To find the response of portal frame under different loads
  8. To find Euler’s buckling load for columns with different end conditions
  9. To find the Shear force and Bending Moment in beams
