English is a language of opportunities and it plays a prominent role in securing desirable employment for engineering graduates. Accuracy and fluency in the use of language is very essential in the corporate world. Engineers who work globally have English as the only means of communication. English helps them to establish healthy relations with their clients at international level. Engineers in companies work on different projects with their colleagues, in such situation English proves to be an efficacious instrument in establishing healthy communication among each others to accomplish their desired targets in stipulated time. Growth of industry banks upon research and development and English helps the engineers to conduct research and incorporate their innovative ideas for the advancement of the industry.
Many a time engineers in companies have to address business meetings and deliver presentations. Apart from it, English helps them to motivate their subordinates. As per as written communication is concerned in industry, English plays a significant role in drafting emails and preparing reports. But the situation in Marathwada region regarding English is quite poor. Scores of engineering graduates in this region are incompetent in English communication skills. Many of them fail to crack the screening tests such as Group Discussion and Interview in context with recruitment. Lack of English has deeply impacted the job opportunities leaving thousands of engineering graduates unemployed in Marathwada region today.
Besides the use of English in Industry, it is also very important for engineering graduates who prepare for various competitive examinations such as TOEFL, IELTS and GRE. In the modern era, technology aided learning has been playing a pivotal role in the pursuit of language acquisition. Therefore, keeping in view the desperate need of English for engineering students, the institute has initiated to install ETNL software in the Departmental Language Laboratory. This language lab software is completely server based which is accessed by 42 users at a time. The Language Lab aims at facilitating the learners to attain mastery over English. It enables the students to expedite the process of improving learning skills with more emphasis on LSRW which lead to desirable employability.
The students who hail from rural environment but not sound in language skills are provided sufficient ear training in the lab. The lab has been equipped with audio recording facility which helps a great mode of evaluation and feedback.
The language lab intends to develop confidence among students for interactions and presentations in English and it motivates them to practice language skills outside the classroom as well. The prime purpose of the lab is to provide students a platform to sharpen their English language skills.
